Some Interesting Legal Stuff about the Church of Craft

The Interesting Legal Stuff

Here is what we know so far. We are still learning, so check back for more...

Tristy and I are legally ordained ministers with the Universal Life Church in Modesto, California. They are wonderful and free folks who are generous with their resources. This ordination means that we can legally perform marriage ceremonies almost everywhere in the United States (laws very state to state and county to county and some places think the ULC isn't for real, boy are they dumb).

As nice as the ULC is, the Church of Craft has a different charge. The Church of Craft wants to be a religious corporation all on its own so we can be ministers of the Church of Craft in the eyes of the law. Being a religious corporation is a lot like being a not-for-profit organization, with the privileges and responsibilities that go with this legal distinction. We will have a board of directors and a mission and we will be a real church (like Pinocchio).

What we are doing now is taking steps to draft articles of incorporation, seeking legal council to make sure we are doing things right.

If you have been through this process or know someone with information about how this all works please contact me at tvecallie@churchofcraft.org! All bits of information and help are valuable to us.
