NEW YORK

Featured Crafter: Nikko
Nikko!

Nikko is a lifetime crafter. Impressive cook, generous hostess, dedicated friend, adventurous traveler, maker and giver of all things, she is inspiration to me, and anyone who knows her. Here is what she has to say about the Church.

1. What does the Church of Craft mean to you?
It means I get to spend quality time with myself and other creative beings and this calmness keeps my crazy head in check.

2. Why do you attend the monthly gatherings of the Church of Craft?
Once a month is perfect for devoting time to crafting and hanging out with the good folks.

3. Why is making things important to you?
I have to use all parts of the brain and during a normal week, I get stressed and forget about the fun creative side of life. Being creative is vital!

4. Do you see the Church as spiritual?
It's as spiritual as I get, which means getting a grip on calming down and enjoying art and artist's company.

Do you see the Church as political?
No...we're a happy anarchy operating smoothly.

5. Do you think making things is meditative?
Yes... and healing.

6. What are your thoughts on the "revival" of the "female craft arts" such as knitting and crocheting?
Girlies should spend less time on career and more on getting crafty...though some of us have lost the knitting gene.

7. Has your life changed since you started gathering with the Church of Craft? If so, how did it change?
I look forward to CofC each month as a chance to check in with my crafty side...it's really given me perspective on life in NYC because it reminds me to not forget how art is a great outlet.

8. What would you like to see happen in the future with the Church of Craft?
Own space, proper non-profit funding, branching out (we should have neighborhood missionaries!), and tons of new members being exposed to the Church.

9. What do you think should be added or changed on the website?
It's getting there...I'll work on getting you some recipes!

10. Any and all other comments about the Church and making things.
Callie, you are doing a swell thing for the community, we need the CofC and your guidance so that we can all spread the love of craft!
