October Meeting:
spine-tingling, fear-inducing, pre-halloween CRAFT-ON!
Sunday, October 5,
3 pm, at the Green Room
Not many crafters were in a Halloween mood, so the spine-tingling and fear-induction factors were lower than expected.
Only Michelle worked on a costume -- Drusilla the vampire slayer! Dasha tried crochet for the very first time,
Monica showed off her swank new knitting bag, Heidi diversified the crafts represented by making rubber stamps.
Most excitingly, Jennifer interviewed us and observed the crafty goings on for an article that appeared in
The Star on October 18th.
Craft-on at The Power Plant:
The Church of Craft at The Power Plant
Wednesday, October 22,
6 pm
The Power Plant
The Power Plant Contemporary Art Gallery invited 3 Toronto groups to use the gallery as an open site for discussion within
Liam Gillick's installation, Communes, Bars and Greenrooms.
The Church of Craft invited people to gather in the gallery to make crafts. We brought in a big pile of supplies,
from baby blankets to bubble wrap to sequins, and asked each participant to create a 20 x 20 cm square using any
materials and techniques they chose.
Many of the regular flock members were kept away due to work, school and babysitter troubles, but the general public filled in the ranks.
Several new recruits, a class of York students, reporters from Muchmusic and The Power Plant staff all joined in and discovered their inner crafter.
Leah is now busily sewing the squares together to make a gigantic and totally spectacular flag.
The work in progress is shown below.

We're a small (and growing)
grassroots crafty collective rebelling against the culture of
mass production. Not only are the things we create our own, but in this
glossy, fabricated world, the simple act of creation is transcendent. I.e., we make things because
it makes us happy.
